Do Bad Things Happen For A Reason?

9 years ago, I was settling back home after being in the hospital for a little over a month.

Do bad things happen for a reason?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Well, first I’d like to mention that maybe using the word “bad,” isn’t helpful. I prefer viewing these “bad” things as challenges and obstacles which I’ve come to realize are part of life and inevitable (as scary as that sounds…it’s the truth).

So part of me believes that challenges and obstacles happen for a reason. I believe these things can teach us what needs attention, care, and/or healing within us. I believe these things can help us become stronger and gain new/different perspectives.

However, I know that seeing things from this approach can make others feel like we are trying to put a positive spin on everything when in fact some shit in life just sucks and we don’t have to always find meaning in our obstacles.

I’ve been in those dark and hard places in my life when shit just effin SUCKED! For instance, childhood trauma, mental health challenges, and health issues that went totally wrong and left me with scars you see here in the above picture.

With all of that being said, I remember reading somewhere that not everything happens for a reason but in order to heal or grow from our struggles, finding meaning can help.

I really loved this perspective because I feel that it validates the reality of what challenges can bring us without putting a positive spin on it and at the same time offering us an option of how to see our way out.

So for me?

Did being in a hospital for a little over a month and having major surgeries 9 years ago happen for a reason? I don’t know.

But, making meaning of what I went through has helped me so much gain the inner strength and self-love I have today (never perfect because there are still so many ups and downs I experience).

Overall, I can see and feel how making meaning from my challenges has helped me become resilient and gain new perspectives on life.

If you would like to work on building resilience and self-love, I’d love to support you with this! I invite you to book a call with me here to see what 1:1 coaching would look like for you and if we could be a fit for each other!

Thank you for reading <3
