I am no longer a school counselor.
On Monday, December 1, 2025, I unbecame a school counselor.
I no longer have to deal with challenging student behavior.
I no longer have to teach SEL or advisory classes.
I no longer have to cover classes.
I no longer have to manage a whole classroom.
I no longer have to proctor tests.
I no longer have to do lunch & recess duty.
I no longer have to work inside schools that have systemic issues.
I no longer have to work in schools with poor and ineffective school leaders.
I no longer have to deal with the misunderstanding of the role of a school counselor.
I no longer have to do things that did not align with the role of a school counselor.
I no longer have to deal with the challenges that came with being a school counselor.
Since 2021, I’ve been questioning my purpose, career, identity, and so much more in my life.
And, it took all these years to come to this point, where I have officially left the career and I do not intend on returning.
I had to unbecome being a school counselor to now be closer to who I am meant to be and who I am becoming…more me…MORE ANINA!
I am no longer a school counselor.
I am free.

Side note: There is so much more to my story but I felt called to write this post as a way of sharing where I am now at this moment in my journey. I am feeling more ready to share my full truth of what has unfolded in my career life. I will continue to share more in the near future.
