Earlier this month, I decided that I was going to release one blog post per week. So far I accomplished releasing two blog posts for the first two weeks and missed the third week. I can easily beat myself up for falling behind but I have this perspective of “you can always start again.”
Having A Different Perspective Can Help
I am no “building habits expert.” However, the perspective of “you can always start again,” has helped me in pursuing my goals no matter how many times I may fall behind.
There are so many new habits I’ve been trying to build such as writing, exercising, practicing dance at home, and stretching. And, being totally honest with you, these are things that I am not consistent with. There are weeks I set goals to work on these habits and at times I accomplish them, other weeks I don’t, and sometimes I accomplish some of it.
While it is hard to build new habits, I don’t give up and I keep trying. I see a new moment, new day, new week, new month, and new year as an opportunity to start again.
If I would have given up and not even tried, do you know how many blog posts would have not been published? How many times would I have not stretched or worked out? How many times would I have not practiced dance at home?
I realize that all the times I did these things even though not consistently actually do count. They count because as I was doing them I found some form of relief, realization, or I simply enjoyed myself. Maybe this did not happen every single time but I know I felt good after I did it and that to me is winning!
But Why Should I Try If I’m Going To Fall Back Anyway?
Why try if I know I am going to fail or fall back into the same old patterns? That may be a question you or others have thought. I think I’ve had this similar thought as well in the past.
I don’t have an answer to this thought/question because it may depend on the person’s journey. But for me, it’s my desire to follow what my heart wants and honor my inner voice as best as I can.
I think it’s about choosing to listen to what your heart or inner voice is asking for. And, not paying attention to the negative and doubtful thoughts such as the ones that say “it’s pointless to try,” or any other kinds of thoughts/feelings that come up that are preventing you from even trying.
So yes, I did not meet my goal last week of releasing my third blog post but I am publishing one today. And, guess what? I can still meet my goal of doing 4 blog posts for the month of July because I have time. It may have not been the way I intended but it’s getting done. What matters is that I am doing it now!
You Can Start Again No Matter How Many Times You Fall Back
So I leave you with this:
When you are working on your goals and you realize you are falling back a bit, remember…
Every new year is an opportunity to start.
Every new month is an opportunity to start.
Every new week is an opportunity to start.
Every new day is an opportunity to start.
Every new moment is an opportunity to start.
-Anina Alvarez
I wrote this because I love setting new goals and intentions no matter what time of year it is.
Do I always 100% successfully accomplish them? Absolutely not!
But, I know that every new moment is an opportunity for me to start, restart, or to keep pushing forward and most importantly not give up!
I hope that you can remember that you can always start again.
Thank you for reading <3
