Choose Your Dreams Over The Fear

This is part of an ongoing blog post series called ‘Alchemy Every 10 Days,’ post 3 of 10.

I believe life is about following your dreams and goals despite the fear and doubt that comes up.

While I believe and try to live by this, it doesn’t mean it has come easy for me when I pursue my dreams and goals. In fact, if you’ve been following my journey I often talk about how I struggle with doubt, nervousness, and self-consciousness, particularly as it relates to dancing.

The times I’m most nervous, doubtful, and self-conscious is when we are put into small groups in my dance classes or when I am being recorded professionally or with my phone. But, I still dance. Even if I mess up, I still do it.

I think this is what people need to understand when it comes to pursuing their dreams and goals when fear is holding them back. It’s about choosing to still do the thing, even if you are scared.

Sometimes I think people think there is some kind of magic formula to doing things without being scared. But, the truth is, it’s all about choosing your dreams and goals over fear and doubt.

I am still figuring this out for myself because I am still facing my own fears and doubts. But one thing is that I will keep choosing my dreams and goals over the discomfort. I will keep trying even if it looks messy.

The way I think about it is that you have two options to choose from. Option 1 is your dreams and goals and option 2 is your fears and doubts. Which one will you pick?

One will move you closer to what you deeply want and the other will keep you stuck.

Remember it’s all about choosing your dreams and goals over fear and doubt.

To end this off, I’ll leave you with a quote from The Book of Alchemy that inspired me to write this blog post:

In the past, I was fascinated by people who seem to be missing the fear gene, by people who free climb El Capitan or surf hundred-foot waves. But I have come to understand that many of these people do not have any less fear than the rest of us. They simply persist in spite of their fear; they do the things they want anyway. Like Georgia O’Keeffe said, “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life—and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do. – Suleika Jaouad
